All About Mrs. McHugh
I LOVE teaching here at Dilworth and adore all of my Dilworth Dragons! I am a graduate of the University of Virginia with a Master of Teaching in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Arts in English. I am a huge UVa fan, Go Hoos! This is my twelfth year teaching. I taught the for the first six years of my career at Oakdale Elementary School where I taught both first and second grade. I was honored to be named Teacher of the Year at Oakdale Elementary School and in 2014 I was selected as one of twenty MeckEd Teachers of Excellence in the school district. I am also a huge lover of literacy! I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to share this love with teachers across the district teaching professional development courses about guided reading and the reading units of study during Read.Write.Inspire. This will be my eighth year teaching second grade and my sixth year at Dilworth.
My parents live in Williamsburg, Virginia where I was born, but I grew up as an Air Force brat traveling the South and spending 6 years in England! My brother and his family live in Charleston, SC so I have a fun excuse to visit my 3 nephews from time to time.
My husband, Mark, and I are proud parents to a two year old little boy named James. He lights up our life and we love watching him navigate this brand new world around him. Our other first "child" is our golden retriever named Bodie. He is almost three years old and a caring big brother.
When I'm not in the classroom, I enjoy reading, running, baking, eating cupcakes or frozen yogurt, and, of course, playing with James. I'm looking forward to a fun and challenging year!
